For many students, homecoming proposals were more than just a question, they were a chance to express creativity and connection. Each sign, song, or theme carried a story behind it. In a moment filled with cheers, laughter, and cameras flashing, one student made a bold homecoming ask that turned an ordinary day into an unforgettable memory.
Junior Sabrina Carpenter was asked out to homecoming by senior Jeremiah Guarnero after a volleyball game with a gift basket and poster board.
“I was so happy I said yes to the person I love,” Carpenter said. “The most memorable part was that the board was based on a Daniel Caesar song. It’s beautiful knowing someone truly sees you.”
She felt seen by him and the warmth of an audience cheering her on during this special moment.
“It was exciting but also so overwhelming with confusion,” Carpenter said. “Everyone was cheering, even the girls from Waxahachie on the bus were honking and cheering.”
Despite being from a rival school, the Waxahachie girls joined in the celebration. Their unexpected support highlighted a moment of unity and shared excitement.
“I was grateful for everyone who cheered me on,” Carpenter said. “Seeing all my friends and family around, it warmed my heart that they were here to experience a special moment with me.”
The presence of friends and family was particularly meaningful to Carpenter.
“I always wanted my best friend to have some type of input in my life,” Carpenter said. “So finding out she helped make the board, basket and seeing her smiling ear to ear was the true happiness.”
Junior Emerson Flores was “thrilled” with the idea of seeing her best friend happy.
“I immediately said yes when Jeremiah asked me to help him ask Sabrina out,” Flores said. “I love Sabrina like a sister, I would give anything to see her happy. I was so excited to help Jeremiah make his plans become a reality although I could tell how nervous he was.¨
Through all the nerves, they came together to create this special moment.
“I was feeling nervous, excited, and embarrassed a little since there were a lot of people with me, including friends and a bus full of volleyball players next to me,” Guarnero said. “l knew there was a chance I could be awkward, but I just took the leap of faith. I’m glad I did, because seeing her mouth the word “yes” was a moment I’ll cherish forever.”
While facing an unexpected setback, Guarnero did everything he could to ensure his plans remained on track.
“Everything went according to plan, until my car broke down,” Guarnero said. “It had to be jump started with the help of my mom, but that didn’t stop me from going to her game and asking her out.”
In the mix of feeling nerves and excitement, Jeremiah’s proposal resulted in a moment he says he will never forget.
“Although I had some problems on the way, God helped me get to where I needed to be,” Guarnero said. “I’m forever grateful, because of him I was able to hug my favorite person after the memory of asking her to homecoming was created.”
