Crumbs from the cookie fall onto the floor as you bite into it. A sip from a glass of milk as you reminisce with friends and family about the good times. As happiness and laughter fills the room, you look out the window watching as the snow falls, remembering those details of the cold winter days as a kid. They weren’t just small things that happened, it was memories that were cherished.
Freshman Emilce Sanchez remembers the first memory that comes to mind when she hears the word winter.
“Winter makes me think of devoting my time to hangout with my family at my cousin’s house and celebrating Christmas,” Sanchez said. “We opened gifts together and had an amazing time sharing laughter and joy. I really love their homemade macaroni because we ended up having a feast at the end. Hitting a pinata with my cousins and fighting for candy was also really fun.”
Senior Jaymed Sepateh expresses a memory that he wants to experience again.
“I would love to experience having a snowball fight with my brother and friends,” Sepateh said. “It was a fun cold snowy day and that doesn’t happen often in Texas. Something I would’ve wanted to change was my aim during the fight, but it will always be a memory that will stick out to me and is one to look back at.”
Junior Hazrel Montez unfolds his experience during a winter break and how it created a passion for shows.
“During a winter break is when I fell in love with the anime One Piece,” Montez said. “Two years ago during a break was when I started to get into anime. It opened up a new experience for me with finding different perspectives in anime. During my free time and school breaks I got to binge watch many new ones. Now, when chilly days approach, it brings warmth and comfort when I get to explore more options and continue watching many more.”
Sophomore Emily Soto has memories she hopes to create in the future.
“I’m hoping to spend a big Christmas with the whole family,” Soto said. “I also wanna make lots of food and desserts. My aunt recently moved in, so hopefully it snows because I wanna throw snow balls at her and also make giant snowmans.”
Sophomore Matthew Coronado explains a memorable winter experience he had.
“Every year I go to a hotel in Gaylord, Texas that has beautiful ice sculptures,” Coronado said. “Last year there were Peanuts themed sculptures that I found really mesmerizing. It’s memorable because it’s something that brings my family closer together. We were able to take lots of pictures and spend a great time talking to one another.”
Junior Melissa Acosta has made special winter memories during school.
“During school I have memories of doing Secret Santa with my friends before winter break starts,” Acosta said. “It’s fun to see what everyone gets. I enjoy watching my friends smile and laugh as we open our presents together. Hopefully we keep this as a tradition and continue gift exchanging, because those are the memories that stick out to me the most.”
