Sophomore Michelle Zacarias has joined her first year in “The Rosette” Newspaper in hope of bettering her outrageous writing skills. Michelle is a very kind but quiet person. Although she keeps to herself most of the time, her friends help her true personality come out. Michelle’s favorite interests are things like gaming, drawing, and shopping. When it comes to gaming, Michelle is usually very bad. A few games that she likes are Resident evil, Silent hill, Dead by Deadlight, Etc. Since Michelle was a very introverted person since Elementary School, she found it very hard to talk to people. Even to this day she still struggles with interacting with others.

Own the Runway: Zacarias adventure with fashion

From being afraid to speak up to hating her appearance and now feeling more comfortable in her own skin, she walks down her path of freedom, while at the same time, leaving her old self behind.

Sophomore Michelle Zacarias finally finds her sense of style.

“It took me up until late freshman year to find my style,” Zacarias said. “I always thought my style right now was cool, but I just never had the interest to dress that way. I definitely started dressing darker and worked up to what my style is now.”

Social media played a big part in helping her figure out what she wanted to look like.

“Social media was definitely my biggest inspiration, because just videos on certain content creators who had a similar fashion style that I did,” Zacarias said. “From there I really started to get inspiration from how to piece things together. Different brands like Ed Hardy, Harley Davidson, Tapout, and any other alternative brands. With all that stimuli I began starting to change my style, and dress the way I do now.”

Zacarias used to have no confidence to dress the way she does now.

“The reason why it took me so long was because my style before was very basic. I would hardly dress in dark clothing, and I was more into a preppy style,” Zacarias said. “I did not have the right inspiration. I always felt more comfortable kinda fitting in with everybody else rather than being different, but one of the things that really did help was my friends. They gave me advice and little things to improve my daily style.”

After finding her sense of style, Zacarias isn’t limited to one aesthetic.

“I definitely would say that I have multiple aesthetics, the reason why is because I feel that I can’t settle on one because I love so many that I just can’t choose,” Zacarias said. “If I had to say one style specifically, it would have to be gothic, even though I don’t dress like that often because of the dress code. And although gothic describes a music genre, I think it can be both a genre of music and a style of dress.”

The people around her have played a huge part in the transformation of Zacarias’s style.

“I always felt more comfortable kinda fitting in with everybody else rather than being different, but one of the things that really did help was my friends, ” Zacarias said. “They gave me advice and little things to improve my daily style. When I see a lot of people dress the same as me, especially my friends, I think I get more comfortable, because I know that some people have the same fashion sense as me. I can be free to dress the way I want without feeling any judgment.”

Her change in clothing has caused more than just a style change, but a transformation of self.

“I feel more confident in my current style because my old style didn’t match my personality at all,” Zacarias said. “The style I have now, with the baggy clothing and darker palettes, really suits me more. The style I had before felt way more forced, because of how much I was trying to fit in with people.”

Fashion is more than just pieces of clothing to Zacarias.

“The way that people put pieces together and certain styles of clothing, really brings out the whole creativity of things,” Zacarias said. “The way you can really put some kind of outfit together just by using a certain color or accessory can make your outfit or style better than it already is. I definitely do think fashion is a form of art because of everybody’s originality and creativity.”
