1. Home Alone
“I would have to say Home Alone, it’s a staple Christmas movie but it’s so good,” senior Joanna Gonzales said. “I don’t think you can celebrate Christmas without watching Home Alone. The laughs I have watching that movie never get old, even years later I still find myself watching it. I would watch it in my room on my IPad with my little Christmas tree and a lit candle, and of course you can’t watch a movie unless you have snacks, so I would always have some gummy bears or chips. It’s a top tier Christmas movie for sure.”
“I don’t really have a favorite Christmas movie but if I have to choose it would have to be home alone,” junior Glory Uchendu said. “Not necessarily because of the film but my family always watches it every Christmas season and I love when everyone is around for the season. That feeling when everyones gathered around to watch it, makes it my favorite Christmas movie.”
2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
“I would say my favorite Christmas movie is How the Grinch Stole Christmas because it’s a classic movie my family watches every year,” senior Sofia Razo said. “I love hearing the songs and seeing the joy on my family’s faces while watching the funny scenes in the movie. Not only is it a funny movie but it also helps remind us of the true meaning of Christmas which is a really big reason why it is my favorite.”
“A Christmas movie that holds a special place in my heart is How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” senior Paola Rodriguez said. “I love how this movie illustrates the delightful interplay between mischief and merriment. It’s one of my favorites because it beautifully demonstrates how the Christmas spirit and acts of kindness can transform a person.”
3. Christmas Chronicles
“My favorite Christmas movie is The Christmas Chronicles,” sophomore Kaylee Cano said. “The reason behind this being my favorite Christmas movie is because it became a family tradition to watch it every year since it came out. I also enjoy it because it gives me that Christmas feeling we all know and love.”
4. Die Hard
“I like the movie Die Hard because of the action and cop relevance it has,” junior Ana Hernandez said. “I’m not a big fan of Christmas movies but Die Hard is filmed in a Christmas setting so I classify it as a Christmas movie. I like action and this movie is full of it. Also it’s Jake Peralta, who is the main character in Brooklyn 99, which is why it is my favorite Christmas movie.”
5. Polar Express
“Polar Express is my favorite Christmas movie. I say it’s my favorite because it’s a movie filled with great cinematography and an amazing plot,” junior Zachory Santos said. “The main reason it is my favorite Christmas is there is a lot of nostalgia that surrounds this movie for me; every time I watch it I am reminded of the great times I used to have watching this movie in my elementary school Christmas parties. I also make sure to always remember to watch this movie with family which is never a dull time. Polar Express is my favorite Christmas movie and arguably a top 3 Christmas film of all time.”
6. Ebbie
“A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens gets an inventive modern update and a female twist in this enchanting seasonal fantasy, in which a ruthless businesswoman is taught the true spirit of Christmas,” English teacher Jamie Costello said. “I love this movie because, in the 90’s, it was rare to find female leads in movies that weren’t romantic or Disney related. I’ve seen many versions of A Christmas Carol and can find something good about each of them. Ebbie is something new and different. Not only is Dicken’s timely-for-all-times tale brought into contemporary times, but Scrooge is a woman–and played by one of my favorite soap opera characters, Susan Lucci. All of the technical aspects (e.g. the way Jake Marley communicates with God by cell-phone when dealing with getting Ebbie to the right spirit; the way that the familiar death scene [once portrayed by a neglected tombstone with Scrooge’s name on it] is portrayed by the flat-line signal sound of a heart monitor in a lonely hospital room) sends out the clear message that this fine old Christmas tale hits home these days just as it did in the mid 1800’s.”
